Do the following if a Samsung refrigerator won't defrost:
Check defrost heater
Check the continuity of the defrost heater with a multimeter. If there is no continuity, replace the heater.
The defrost thermostat allows the defrost heater to come on a few times a day to warm the evaporator coils. This prevents them from freezing. But if the heater is faulty, frost builds up on the coils, interrupting the defrost cycle.
Check the defrost timer
Manually turn the timer dial slowly to advance the defrost cycle. By doing so, the defrost heater should turn on when the compressor turns off. If this occurs, it is the first indication that the timer is defective.
But if it doesn't come out of the defrost cycle within 30 minutes or transmit power to other defrost components, it's clearly broken. Replace the timer - shymon appliance repair.
Check the defrost thermostat
Check the continuity of the thermostat with a multimeter. If there is no continuity even at the low temperature of the operating range, replace the thermostat.
The thermostat monitors the evaporator or refrigeration coils to know when they are cold enough. At a preset temperature, the thermostat allows the defrost heater to turn on to warm the coils and prevent frost buildup.
If the thermostat malfunctions, this process will be interrupted and ice buildup will occur in the refrigerator.
This is one of the known problems with Samsung refrigerators.
Samsung refrigerator ice maker not working – Quick fix
The following is what to check if the ice maker on a Samsung refrigerator is not working:
Water inlet valve
Make sure the water pressure is at least 20 psi, as only then can the valve gain enough pressure to open and supply water to the ice maker. If the pressure is insufficient, increase it.
But if the pressure is correct, test the valve solenoid with a multimeter to make sure it is receiving enough power. If there is power but the valve cannot supply water to the ice maker, replace it.
Temperature
If the freezer temperature is high, the ice maker will have difficulty making ice. So check the temperature setting and adjust it if it is above 0 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the proper temperature for the ice maker to produce ice.
Ice maker switch
Make sure the ice maker is on. It could be turned off accidentally. If it is clearly on, test the ice maker switch with a multimeter for continuity. If there is no continuity in the ice maker switch, it means it is defective and needs to be replaced.
Water filter
Replace the water filter if you have been using it for more than 6 months. If it is newly installed, check that it is installed correctly and that there is no damage to the head or housing.
A clogged filter inhibits the flow of water to the ice maker and water dispenser. As a result, the ice maker will not be able to make ice as it should.
Although the ice maker can operate without a water filter, it is not recommended. This is because the water filter sifts the water to remove impurities that are dangerous to health and can damage the machine over time.
Ice maker assembly
The ice maker assembly could be the cause of the problem. But to be sure, test all the other parts that work together with it to make ice. If everything is OK, check the ice maker. One or more parts could be defective, causing it to not work.
However, it can be difficult to find individual parts to replace defective ones. It is usually easier to replace the entire assembly.
Ice maker problems are common among Samsung refrigerator users. Therefore, it is common to Samsung refrigerator problems.
